Under the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 (NRSWA), its subsidiary legislation and associated Codes of Practice, any person or organisation undertaking work on a street or public roadway has a duty to ensure the work is carried out under the control of a competent person. To qualify, workers must hold a Streetworks card. Certificates and cards are awarded by the Street Works Qualification Register (SWQR).
CPQ runs approved City & Guilds NRSW courses for operatives and supervisors, qualifying them for different types of work on the national road network. Training takes place at CPQ’s training centre, which boasts a purpose-built street works facility comprising a mock up section of roadway complete with drains, services and pavements.
