The source of most British health and safety law is the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974. The Act sets out the general duties which employers have towards employees and members of the public, and employees have to themselves and to each other.

Details of how the Health and Safety at Work Act applies in specific situations are laid out in The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 (the Regulations). CPQ works in partnership with its clients to help them comply with both the spirit and the letter of the law.
Under the Work at Height Regulations 2005, it is an employer's legal duty to make sure that anyone working at height or supervising people working at height is appropriately trained and competent.

CPQ's 'Working at Height' course has been carefully designed to help your business comply with the law. Candidates will learn to fully appreciate the risks associated with working at height and follow safe procedures to avoid the most common types of accidents. They will also gain an understanding of the current legislation. The course covers the use of harnesses and fall arrest equipment, ladders, powered access and mobile towers.

On completion of the course, candidates will be issued with an NPORS (National Plant Operators Registration Scheme) card valid for 3 years. Companies registered with the CITB may be able to claim a grant for the completion of this training if it has been included in a planned and approved training plan.
The Work at Height Regulations 2005, as amended by the Work at Height (Amendment) Regulations 2007, aim to prevent the many deaths and injuries caused each year by falls at work. The regulations state that those involved in work at height must be competent and employers must do all that is reasonably practicable to prevent anyone falling.

These regulations consolidate previous legislation on working at height and implement European Council Directive 2001/45/EC concerning minimum safety and health requirements for the use of equipment for work at height (the Temporary Work at Height Directive).
