Getting the NVQ
Construction NVQs form proof that a candidate meets the occupational standards
expected in the Construction Industry. An Assessor, employed by CPQ, will
visit candidates in the workplace to observe work carried out and gather
evidence. Methods of assessment include:
Observation:
The assessor observes the candidate doing work activities.
Historical
Evidence: This includes previous qualifications and records of
training
Questions
& Answers: Questions to determine knowledge and understanding.
These can be spoken or written. The assessor will agree with the candidate
which method to use prior to assessment.
Evidence
provided by others: Employers may wish to appoint a ‘work-based
recorder’ who records candidates’ work activities on site. The
assessor then looks at the record book and uses the evidence to help decide
if the candidate is competent. The work-based recorder can also advise the
candidate and help gather evidence. For further information on work-based
recorders please do not hesitate to contact us.
Activity Simulation: A specially prepared activity. This
method of assessment is limited as the nature of an NVQ requires the candidate
to show they can do the job in real workplace situations.
